Thauma­turgy

Thaumaturgy is the manipulation of the etherfield, the fifth fundamental force of nature for the exchange and transformation of energy in the Voidpunk universe. Thaumaturgic manipulations of energy can take many different forms, act on different targets, and operate over a large range of distances. Classifications exist, but they’re far from being scientifically agreed upon, or complete.

While thaumaturgy is primarily recognized as a force of evil, wielded by exoentities and their agents to devastating effect, humans have developed thaumaturgic technology that is effective but not always reliable. Some humans, called capables, are also able to manipulate etherfield interactions to command thaumaturgic powers. But they are exceptionally rare, and they must be trained almost from birth lest they lose these powers forever.
