Most power centers across the Void are constituted by entrarchies, a term related to early experiments with entrepreneurial practices and monarchic leadership at the end of the Dark Ages, the period that had followed the breakdown of the first human civilization. They are typically led by a chief entrarchic officer, the CEO—usually for life, except for abdications or successful challenges.

In contrast to the first human civilization of the Federation Age, where human species were more homogeneously clustered, entrarchies and most other societal constructs of the Entrarchic Age—including Outskirters, pirate dominions, or freetrader networks—are highly heterogeneous, fully integrated interspecies societies, with only a handful of weaker or stronger cases of species specialization.
