Lifeforms in the Voidpunk universe aren’t rare, but unevenly distributed through time and space. About one billion years ago, the universe teemed with technologically advanced civilizations, now known as artifact civilizations. But in the aftermath of a war that raged for a million years, both for and against invading exoentities and among themselves, all the great civilizations eventually fell apart and perished.

When humanity entered the stage twelve thousand years ago, all they found were artifacts scattered throughout an empty universe they called the Void. Life forms were encountered, sporadic and isolated, but not advanced civilizations, as far as extant Federation sources can be trusted. Yet, humanity itself is highly diverse. Numerous species, evolved from the original hominoid family tree, call countless ecoformed places across the Void their home.
