Not much is known about the great Artifact Age civilizations—how and when they appeared, how many species each civilization consisted of, and to which extent they had spread across the universe. What is known is that they gradually perished a billion years ago in the aftermath of a million year war, in which they fought for and against invading exoentities and among themselves.
Most of what is known has been decoded from the legacy of the so-called Muralists, brilliant narrative murals found in titanic abandoned cities scattered across the Void. But these records are almost certainly biased and cannot paint a reliable picture of what had really happened in the Void’s distant past.
